#WAVELIGHT
SPORT Technologies has in collaboration with Global Sports Communications developed a ‘digital rabbit’ for individual and group athletes, that works as a visual time guidance aid at athletics tracks. The #WAVELIGHT is an electronic pace-setter that sets a different time dimension and guides runners on their time, speed and interval. The desired PACE is always in sight and provides the athlete with continuous information and motivation. Easy to install on both existing and new athletics tracks, the #WAVELIGHT comprises of 400 LED lights installed in the drainage covers. Each light will display four colours, linked to the starting gun and the time, accurate to the millisecond, and the programmed pace. The revolutionary system offers a high light level in stadiums. Visible to all the spectators in the stadium is also of clear enough quality for TV broadcasts.
The #WAVELIGHT was officially approved by the IAAF during the FBK Games (The Netherlands) in June 2018/2019. During competitions, World, Olympic and personal records are shown on screens to spectators in real-time, ensuring an unbeatable experience for everyone watching. #WAVELIGHT makes everything visible, keeping the crowd’s attention as they watch athletes keep track of the lights. Will they overtake it? Will they smash their record? #WAVELIGHT ensures no one misses any of the action.
#WAVELIGHT Application
The #WAVELIGHT system can be customised to suit the individual athlete. Athletes can create their own training schedule tailored to them and even share training sessions with other athletes. It offers flexibility that enables athletes to choose the training programme they want. On the athletics track they can choose their starting position and starting time. Alternatively, simply wait for the starting signal and #WAVELIGHT will lead them on their training.
Sports clubs and athletics associations can offer the #WAVELIGHT to their members or as a paid service to recreational runners. A maximum of 10 groups of runners can work on different time schedules at the same time on the track. While an individual runner doesn’t have to be a paying member, they can easily use the various training options of the #WAVELIGHT though a simple online payment system.
(TOP) ATHLETES / PUBLIC
Athletes can use the #WAVELIGHT to complete specific and timed training schedules. The system guides the athlete on the duration, speed and interval of their training programme. The desired PACE is constantly in sight of the runner, so they are continuously informed and motivated.
The #WAVELIGHT offers a high light level that is visible to all the spectators in the stadium, which is also clear enough to be broadcast on TV. The #WAVELIGHT enables spectators to see when an athlete is on schedule to achieve the fastest time or about to beat a world record or the personal best.
GROUP OF RUNNERS
The #WAVELIGHT enables up to 10 groups of athletes to run different time schedules on the track simultaneously. The four different colour LED lights that catch up with each other, allow trainers to train multiple running groups on different levels at the same time. As a result, the trainer no longer needs to be glued to a stopwatch, but can instead focus on running technique.
INDIVIDUAL RUNNERS
Running becomes more interesting, fun and challenging with the #WAVELIGHT. It adds an extra dimension to training programmes. The specially developed software shows a comet of light around the track. The runner is able to set the desired time and run on time via the #WAVELIGHT app. Athletics club has the option to offer the #WAVELIGHT as a paid service to recreational runners or as an additional tool to members.
SCHOOLS
The #WAVELIGHT can also be used to help students pass the Copper test or the Shuttle Run test. The system can even be programmed with the lap times of well-known athletes to give students extra motivation. As part of their training, students can be shown the times of athletes such as Sifan Hassan, Churandy Martina or 200 meters runner Dafne Schippers.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Utilising the technology in the #WAVELIGHT, many running training courses have been developed for physiotherapists. A physical therapist can select the desired workout for an individual in terms of recovery, endurance or interval. With the guidance of the #WAVELIGHT physiotherapists can focus on the athlete and their physical recovery.
ARMED FORCES
All Dutch soldiers take the defence condition test each year. This test involves a 12-minute running test. The #WAVELIGHT enables soldiers to prepare for the test by using the various training schedules available which will guide the individual from the start of their training through to them successfully completing the fitness test.
