Spartaan ’20

RKSV Spartaan ’20, Rotterdam’s amateur football club has around 950 members. Famous for being the club of former players Denzel Dumfries and Anwar El Ghazi, Spartaan “20 was the first club to reach the final step of KNVB’s and energy partner Essent’s sustainability programme. Less than a year ago, the almost 100-year-old association started the De Groene Club programme. The reason to get started with the sustainability process was two-fold, according to chairman Leandro Lopes.

He said: “On the one hand because we want to be socially involved and, in this way, we can contribute to a reduction in energy and CO2 emissions. On the other hand, because it will save us money in the long term. Moreover, we have an exemplary role in the region. By making ourselves more sustainable, we also hope to inspire our members and other clubs to get started.”
